Emília Margarida Marques (CRIA campus Iscte) has authored the chapter ‘Indústria Vidreira’ in História Global da Economia e Gestão de Portugal: da revolução liberal à I Guerra Mundial (Universidade Aberta / Temas & Debates, 2026), a volume edited by José Eduardo Franco, José Paulo Esperança and José António Porfírio.

In this chapter, the researcher traces the history of one of the country’s oldest and most distinctive industrial sectors throughout the long 19th century — from the legacy of the royal manufactories, through industrialisation, to the changes in working practices that took place in Portuguese glassworks.

The book takes readers on a journey through the different eras of Portugal’s past, seeking to systematise the country’s contribution to management and its influence on the global economy.
