Sónia Vespeira de Almeida (CRIA-NOVA FCSH | IN2PAST), Marta Prista (CRIA-NOVA FCSH | IN2PAST) and Joana Miguel Almeida (CRIA-NOVA FCSH | IN2PAST) are coordinating, together with Cristina Pratas Cruzeiro, Joana Dias Pereira and Patrícia Roque Martins, the volume História Pública em Portugal: desafios, práticas e experiências (Imprensa de História Contemporânea, 2026).

The book brings together nine papers from the First Congress on Public History in Portugal (2023) and explores three themes: the uses of the past, the teaching of history, and the role of archives and heritage. A common concern runs through them all — the sharing of authority and authorship in the construction of historical knowledge, and the practices that seek to reveal the agency of marginalised groups, questioning their (in)visibility. From the archaeology of resistance in Cambedo da Raia to women in agrarian reform, from municipal archives to railway heritage, the volume presents public history as a field in which historical practices take on diverse forms.
