After a short beginning at Fine Arts Academy, Diana West graduated in Anthropology in 2004-2008 and proceeded to a master's degree also at FCSH-UNL until 2011. After the first fieldwork experience in Trás-os-Montes, Portugal, about winter rituals in that region, she shifted focus for the master research into peripheral areas of the city of Lisbon and cultural institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art of the Gulbenkian Foundation. This research resulted in the dissertation "Identity, Culture and Museums, Colective Houses: a case study at the Museum of Modern Art of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation".
