This PhD project investigates the processes of representation of the nation and the political-cultural formulation of a national subject. Focusing on the Portuguese context, we question the different acceptations of the nation, categories and narratives that are mobilized towards the definitions, meanings or limitations of belonging to the national collective. Thus, we have as central problematics the processes of inclusion and exclusion in the conceptualizing of the filiations to the national state. We suggest the anthropological study of the practices and discourses of Portuguese political parties, considering the role they play in the production and circulation of representations of the nation.
